One soldier killed in explosion at military base in Spain

MADRID, Oct. 31 (YPA) – One soldier was killed and another seriously injured in an explosion at the Alvarez de Sotomayor military base in Viator, Almeria province, southern Spain, Spanish newspaper ABC reported .

According to the paper, due to the immense power of the explosion, some structures at the military base, such as walls, have been damaged.

Authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the explosion and to ascertain the causes of the tragic event.

The Álvarez de Sotomayor military base is the main training center of the Spanish Legion, where exercises with live ammunition and explosives are regularly held. This is not the first time such incidents have occurred on its territory, the paper added.
