Israeli occupation approves 48,000 settlement units to be built in West Bank

QUDS, Oct. 28 (YPA) – The Israeli occupation’s government has approved the construction of more than 48,000 new settlement units across the occupied West Bank since the beginning of 2023, a move considered one of the largest settlement expansion projects in recent years.

The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Tuesday said the occupation also has planned to approve approximately 2,000 additional settlement units by the end of this year, as part of a policy aimed at strengthening control over Area C, expanding existing settlements, and connecting them to new bypass road networks. This will further fragment the Palestinian geography.

The decision came amid growing international condemnation of Israeli settlement policies, which were considered illegal under international law and constitute a clear violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Field reports indicated that the pace of Israeli settlement construction had been increased significantly since the beginning of 2023, coinciding with an increase in settler attacks against Palestinians and their property in West Bank cities and villages, under direct protection from the occupation army.
