US military preparations for potential hostile attacks against Venezuela

WASHINGTON, Oct. 25 (YPA) – US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered an aircraft carrier strike group currently stationed in Europe to be deployed in the Caribbean amid rising tensions with Venezuela, which accuses Washington of seeking to interfere in its internal affairs under various pretexts, most notably combating drug trafficking.

Pentagon Press Secretary Sean Parnell said in a statement posted on X, ” The enhanced US force presence in the USSOUTHCOM AOR will bolster US capacity to detect, monitor, and disrupt illicit actors and activities that compromise the safety and prosperity of the United States homeland and our security in the Western Hemisphere.”

Earlier today, Hegseth released a video showing a US strike targeting a drug traffickers’ vessel in the Caribbean Sea, noting that the attack resulted in the deaths of six people.

According to Sputnik news agency, this move, announced by the Pentagon on Friday, represents a significant escalation of US military activity in Latin America, while no timeline has been announced for the deployment of the US aircraft carrier.
