UN calls Israeli occupation to fully implement ICJ’s decision on Gaza aid

GAZA, Oct, 23 (YPA) – UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on the Israeli occupation authorities on Wednesday to fully comply with and implement the International Court of Justice (ICJ)’s ruling requiring it to facilitate the delivery of essential humanitarian aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip, amid the worsening humanitarian catastrophe.

In a news statement, Guterres described the court’s ruling as “very important” and expressed his hope that Israel would abide by it.

The statement came after the International Court of Justice issued an advisory opinion affirming the illegality of the occupation’s measures against UNRWA. The court deemed the starvation of civilians and the use of aid as leverage a grave violation of international humanitarian law.

This ruling is a new test of the occupation’s commitment to international justice, especially in light of the ongoing violations and the death toll in the Gaza Strip, which has reached over 238,000 dead, wounded, and missing, most of whom are children and women.
