SHABWA, Oct. 16 (YPA) – A prominent leader in the Saudi-backed “Homeland Shield” factions survived an assassination attempt in an armed ambush by unknown gunmen in Shabwa Governorate, southeast of Yemen.
An informed source explained that the gunmen intercepted the car of Anwar al-Hamdi, the procurement official in the “Homeland Shield” factions, yesterday evening, and opened fire on him with a hail of bullets as he passed on the Al-Abr desert road. He miraculously survived the attack.
The source stated that the attack resulted in the injury of one of al-Hamdi’s companions, who hails from the Mudiyah district in Abyan, named Ali Nasser al-Hamdi. The motives for the attack and the party behind it are unknown.
He pointed out that the injured man was transferred to a nearby hospital to receive the necessary first aid and treatment, and his health condition was described as stable.
The attempted assassination of the leader al-Hamdi came amid security tensions in a number of Shabwa and Hadramout districts between the Emirati and Saudi-backed factions.
