ABYAN, Oct. 13 (YPA) – An activist had been kidnapped by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Lawdar district of Abyan province, south of Yemen.
Human rights sources in the city reported that Dakim Al-Hafza’s abduction on Sunday came after an intense popular protest campaign that the district witnessed over the past weeks for demanding the dismissal of Jamal Alala, the director-general of the district.
These protests demanded Alala’s dismissal, based on accusations of financial and administrative corruption and mismanagement of the district’s affairs.
The sources added that Alala accused Al-Hafza of organizing weekly demonstrations aimed at overthrowing local authorities and STC’s leaders due to their failure to provide even the most basic services to citizens.
Lawdar district is being witnessed a comprehensive collapse in all basic services, including the closure of schools due to a comprehensive teachers’ strike protesting the deteriorating living conditions caused by the fifth consecutive month of unpaid salaries.
