General strike paralyzes medical services in Seiyun general hospital

HADRMOUT, Oct. 08 (YPA) –  Seiyun General Hospital of Hadramout province announced on Wednesday a complete closure of its doors to patients as a result of a comprehensive strike by doctors and staff.

This strike was an escalation of protests that began earlier this week against the coalition-affiliated local authorities’ disregard for their human rights and livelihood demands.

The strike has led also to a complete paralysis of all vital medical services within the hospital, including clinics and emergency departments, after the authorities and the Authority’s management refused to respond to the announced demands.

The decision to go on a general strike came after the deadline given to the local authorities by the doctors’ and workers’ unions expired.

During a meeting held about two weeks ago, the unions had agreed to give the local authorities only one week to meet their demands. However, the expiration of the deadline without any actual response prompted medical staff to implement a complete lockdown.
