UAE replaces school curricula in Socotra

SOCOTRA, Oct. 05 (YPA) – The UAE-backed authorities in the Socotra Archipelago Governorate, east of the Gulf of Aden, have taken the controversial step of replacing the official school curricula with new ones that promote loyalty and belonging to the UAE.

This move has been described as an attempt to erode the Yemeni national identity of the archipelago’s people, and aims to build a new generation completely separated from its homeland and identity.

Observers believe that this measure constitutes a blatant violation of Yemeni sovereignty over its territory, amid harsh criticism of the coalition-affiliated government for its blatant disregard that serves foreign agendas.

Political and popular forces are demanding an immediate halt to the process of replacing curricula and the cancellation of the decisions taken in this regard, warning of the repercussions of these measures on the future of generations in Socotra and the rest of the southern governorates under coalition control.
