SANAA, Sept. 12 (YPA) – The European Parliament called for sanctions against two extremist Israeli ministers and the suspension of part of the EU-Israeli occupation partnership agreement in protest at the situation in Gaza.
This non-binding resolution was approved at the initiative of the Social Democrats, the Greens, and the Centre Party, in which 305 MPs voted in favor, 151 opposed, and 122 abstained.
This position was in line with proposals presented by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Strasbourg on Wednesday.
The measures demanded by von der Leyen and MEPs were expected to face difficulties in gaining approval from member states due to deep divisions among them.
The debate in the parliament hall had witnessed moments of tension and caused a split within the right-wing movement.
