DAMASCUS, Sept. 08 (YPA) – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced (SOHR) on Sunday that 10,672 people have been killed over the past nine months since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, including 3,020 victims of execution-style killings.
In a special report, SOHR stated that violence has escalated to unprecedented levels following the collapse of the regime.
The country has witnessed waves of armed attacks, bombings, indiscriminate killings, and field executions based on sectarian identity. Detainees have also been subjected to torture in various detention centers—run by military factions, armed groups, and extremist organizations.
These acts, the report emphasizes, are not isolated incidents but part of a systematic pattern aimed at dismantling the social fabric and sowing division among Syrians.
The killings have included sporadic attacks targeting both civilians and military personnel, IED explosions, as well as Israeli and Turkish airstrikes. The ongoing violence reflects a deeply entrenched cycle of impunity, particularly in individual killings targeting civilians based on sectarian lines and other human rights abuses.
According to the report, SOHR has documented the death of 10,672 people across Syria during the period between December 8, 2024 and September 6, 2025, in acts of violence and violations by local and foreign parties.
Among the victims were 8,180 civilians, including 438 children and 620 women. This reflects the fragility of the security situation and the growing threat to the most vulnerable segments of the population.
