MARIB, Sept.08 (YPA) – The son of a Yemeni military commander who died fighting alongside the Saudi-led coalition set himself on fire Saturday in the city of Marib, in a rare act of public protest over unpaid wages.
Witnesses and rights activists said the man, who worked as an electrician at a field hospital controlled by the Islah Party, poured fuel over himself and ignited the fire outside the hospital gates.
The incident occurred after he had reportedly gone without pay for four months.
Sources confirmed that the individual is the son of Abdu Ali Budeir, a former commander of the “Raad al-Shamal Battalion,” who was killed in previous fighting against Sanaa forces.
The young man suffered severe burns and remains in critical condition.
