MOSCOW, Sept. 05 (YPA)- Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday that European countries are blocking efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and are doing nothing to support a peaceful settlement.
Peskov also accused European nations of trying to turn Ukraine into a center of anti-Russian activity. He said a European faction is now militarily engaged in the conflict.
His remarks came after a meeting of European countries backing Kiev, held to discuss potential security guarantees for Ukraine within the framework of any future peace agreement.
Speaking after a summit of 35 countries dubbed the “Coalition of the Willing”, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that 26 countries have pledged to offer comprehensive security guarantees to Ukraine once the war ends.
In a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Macron explained that these security assurances would take effect “immediately after the conflict ends” and would include land, sea, and air military support.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had stated that a consensus on security guarantees for Ukraine could be reached, but stressed that “this cannot come at the expense of Russia’s security.”
