HADRAMOUT, Sept. 05 (YPA) – Armed tribesmen loyal to the “Hadramout Tribal Alliance” confronted an Emirati military campaign that attempted to seize control of the Al-Akda area in the Ghayl Bin Yameen district, located in the center of the oil-rich Hadramout province, eastern Yemen.
A tribal source confirmed that the Al-Humum tribes on Thursday surrounded dozens of members of the UAE-backed factions who arrived in military vehicles from the “Barashid and Al-Rabwa” camps in the city of Mukalla. The tribesmen forced them to withdraw at gunpoint.
According to the source, the armed tribal members thwarted the attack, which aimed to take control of the Al-Akda area, near the plateau region that has served as the headquarters for the Saudi-backed alliance since July 2024.
The source added that the Al-Humum tribesmen gathered at their camp, asserting their absolute refusal to allow any foreign military presence on their tribal lands, no matter the cost.
This development comes amid an escalating power struggle between regional forces in Hadramout, with reports indicating that Saudi Arabia is seeking to control the coastal districts by supporting the “Hadramout Protection Forces” that the alliance announced earlier.
It is worth noting that the Al-Humum tribes of Eastern Al-Dis foiled a previous attempt by the UAE to establish a naval military base on the strategic Ras Baghashwa mount overlooking the Arabian Sea in the middle of last year.
