SANAA, Aug. 31 (YPA) – The Greek Pantaion University of Social and Political Sciences announced, on Sunday, the withdrawal of its support for the European Society of Criminology (EUROCRIM 2025) conference in protest against the participation of academics from an Israeli university operating in the occupied Palestinian territories.
A statement issued by the university’s council explained that the decision was taken by majority vote, after the university had continued to support the conference since 2021, which is scheduled to be held this year in Athens from September 3 to 6.
The statement indicated that the step comes in light of “tragic developments,” referring to the ongoing Israeli war of extermination against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
It stressed that Pantaion University has a long history of establishing academic ethics, protecting human rights, and combating racism and fascism.
