HADRAMOUT, July 27 (YPA) – Armed men from the Al Jaber tribe have laid siege to the Islah Party-affiliated First Military Region Command in the city of Sayoun, Hadramout province, in eastern Yemen, halting fuel supplies to the province districts.
The gunmen seized nine fuel tankers in the Sah district, demanding the release of the checkpoint commander, Saleh Salem Al-Turaiki Al-Jaberi, who has been detained at a prison of the military region since last week.
The tribes’ action came in response to Al-Jaberi’s arrest after he revealed the looting of large quantities of electricity fuel in the province without improving service. He also accused the head of the Hadramout Tribal Alliance of involvement in the looting and demanded oversight of the operation of power plants.
The road closure has halted oil supplies and transportation in the region, amid escalating tensions between the tribes and the military region command.
