BEIRUT, July 23 (YPA) – Hamas is currently finalizing its response to the mediators’ proposal, which is “expected to be delivered in the coming hours, informed sources told the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar on Wednesday .
According to the US State Department, US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff is traveling to the region to push for a ceasefire deal and to finalize the establishment of a humanitarian aid corridor into the Gaza Strip —both of which have been agreed to by the two parties.
Witkoff is awaiting updates regarding the negotiations in Doha, as he plans to travel to Europe for meetings. “If the necessary progress is made, he will arrive in Doha by the end of the week,” according to reports.
On the other hand, Israeli sources confirmed to Israel Hayom that most of the contentious issues have been resolved, including the humanitarian aid provisions. Under the agreement, 500 trucks will be allowed to enter Gaza daily, and approximately 1,000 Palestinian detainees will be released, including between 100 and 200 serving life sentences.
However, the remaining point of contention centers around the “maps” issue and Israel’s withdrawal from the “Morag” border axis. the Israeli occupation is demanding a security depth of up to 1,200 meters, while Hamas has proposed a maximum of 800 meters.
According to Channel 12 reporter, the Israeli delegation has been instructed to remain in Doha as long as there are signs of potential progress in the negotiations.
Meanwhile, Channel 13 reported that Hamas has informed the United States that it is engaged in “ongoing and intensive discussions” regarding its response. In turn, Washington has reportedly sent a message to Hamas, warning that its patience is running out.
