MOSCOW, July 21 (YPA) – Iranian Ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, revealed that a meeting took place between Iranian Defense Minister Amir Nasirzadeh and his Russian counterpart, Andrey Belousov, on Monday, as part of the Iranian minister’s official visit to Russia.
Jalali indicated, in a statement published by the embassy’s official Telegram page, that the meeting addressed strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the defense and military fields. He also explained that the Iranian Defense Minister was present on Sunday at a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ali Larijani, Advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, at the Kremlin.
This meeting followed President Putin’s reception of the Iranian advisor, who, at the behest of his leadership, worked to provide a comprehensive assessment of the crisis situation in the Middle East and discuss developments in the Iranian nuclear program.
The Iranian minister’s visit comes in the context of growing rapprochement between Moscow and Tehran on the political and military levels, as the two countries share common regional and international challenges, in addition to Western sanctions imposed on them.
Relations between the two sides have witnessed significant development in recent years, particularly in the areas of defense cooperation, including arms deals and security coordination on regional issues, most notably the Syrian crisis.
