British MPs call on their government to recognize State of Palestine

LONDON, July 12 (YPA) – Dozens of Labour MPs in the British Parliament have called on the government to take urgent action, including immediately recognizing the State of Palestine and preventing the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip by “Israel.”

Their call came in a letter addressed by approximately 60 MPs from the ruling party to Foreign Secretary David Lammy, details of which were published in The Guardian on Saturday.

In the letter, the MPs stressed the need for the British government to intervene directly to prevent Israel from implementing its plans for forced displacement in the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, stressing the urgent need to recognize the State of Palestine.

According to Anadolu Agency, the MPs noted that these demands came after statements by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz regarding a plan to force Palestinians from Gaza to a camp built on the ruins of Rafah, prevent them from leaving, and then subsequently displace them.

The MPs also expressed their deep concern about these plans, considering them a form of ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip.

In their letter, they highlighted an urgent matter addressed to the British Foreign Secretary regarding the repercussions of these disturbing statements, which were revealed earlier this week. The MPs warned that Britain’s continued refusal to recognize the State of Palestine could deepen the existing political and humanitarian crisis.
