ADEN, July 11 (YPA) – Public Prosecution in Aden, controlled by the Saudi-led coalition, has issued an arrest warrant for Ahmed Faraj Abu Khalifa, a member of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council’s (STC) National Assembly, ordering his compulsory appearance.
A document issued by the Public Prosecution accused Abu Khalifa of “insulting a government agency,” and directed the city’s Criminal Investigation Department to arrest him and bring him forcibly to the prosecutor’s office.
In a post on Facebook, Abu khalifa said that the arrest warrant came after he criticized the so-called “Land Protection Battalion” affiliated with Aden’s Governor Ahmed Hamid Lamlas, loyal to the STC.
He affirmed that he would resign from the National Assembly prior to his court appearance, stating that this would “prevent his social media posts from being used against the STC.
In a related context, Anis Al-Sharik, the head of the Al-Rasid Organization for Human Rights in Aden, stated that the summons aims to silence voices and suppress free expression by turning social media debates into criminal cases.
