UN responds to Ben-Gvir’s statements regarding voluntary migration from Gaza

ALQUDS, June 30 (YPA) – UN Assistant Secretary-General for Near East Affairs, Khaled Khiari, affirmed that the international organization strongly rejected any plans for the forced displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip or any other Palestinian territory.

This came in the first international response to a new statement by the Minister of National Security in the occupation government, Itamar Ben-Gvir, calling for encouraging the voluntary migration of Gaza Strip residents, believing that such a step would be sufficient to end the Gaza Strip’s problem.

The UN official said that calls issued by Israeli officials to empty Gaza of its population were inconsistent with international humanitarian law, stressing that forced displacement will constitute a war crime under the Geneva Conventions.

Ben-Gvir’s statements sparked a wave of anger and condemnation in Palestinian, Arab, and international circles, with human rights groups deeming them a blatant attempt to promote a systematic displacement project amid the worsening humanitarian catastrophe the Gaza Strip’s residents have been experiencing since the start of the ongoing Israeli aggression.
