Violent clashes erupt in Shabwa amid unprecedented state of security chaos

SHABWA, June 27 (YPA) – Armed clashes erupted south of the city of Ataq in Shabwa province due to the ongoing security chaos since 2016.

Local sources reported that clashes erupted yesterday evening between the Omar Laqmoush tribes in Habban District, using various weapons, without any human or material losses.

The sources explained that the conflict was caused by the revival of tribal feuds in the absence of a functioning state in Shabwa and the southern regions. They also pointed to the role of the leaders of the factions loyal to the UAE and Saudi Arabia in fueling these conflicts by providing tribal sheikhs with money and weapons to expand their influence.

The people of Shabwa are paying the price for the factions’ control of the oil-rich areas, with the electricity crisis continuing due to fuel shortages and the deterioration of living conditions and services.
