UAE’s ADNOC imposes new price on oil derivatives in Socotra

SOCOTRA, June 22 (YPA) – The UAE-based company ADNOC has imposed a new price on petroleum derivatives and household gas in the Socotra archipelago, located east of the Gulf of Aden.

According to local sources familiar with the situation on the island, ADNOC has raised the price of a 20-liter jerrycan of gasoline and diesel to 50,000 Yemeni riyals.

The price of a large household gas cylinder has reached 63,000 riyals, while the smaller cylinder is now priced at approximately 34,000 riyals.

The price hikes have sparked widespread anger among residents, further worsening their already difficult living and service conditions—especially as many are now unable to afford their electricity bills with the company.

The UAE began managing basic services on the island through ADNOC in 2020. Since then, it has refused to allow fuel imports via the Yemeni Petroleum Company, taken control of the island’s electricity generators, seized the local fishing sector, and eventually monopolized the import and sale of cement on Socotra.
