Citizens protest in front of Mukalla Electricity Emergency Department in Hadramout

HADRAMOUT, June 17 (YPA) – Dozens of residents of the oil-rich city of Mukalla staged a protest in front of the Electricity Emergency Building, on Tuesday, denouncing the disregard for their legitimate demands.

Dozens of residents of the Al-Khazan neighborhood in Mukalla, where the Electricity Emergency Building is located, gathered to protest the corporation’s neglect to repair the transformer and the damage to the cables, which were burned due to the excessive loads on them.

The protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the neglect and repeated promises by the Mukalla Electricity Administration not to provide an alternative transformer for the neighborhood to reduce the recurring malfunctions affecting household electrical appliances.

Over the past two days, young people in Mukalla have called for open sit-ins to denounce power outages that last for more than 15 hours a day and the rise in food prices due to the continued deterioration of the local currency, which has lost its purchasing power against foreign currencies, especially the Saudi riyal, whose selling price has exceeded 700 Yemeni riyals.
