Southern activists expect US dollar exchange rate to reach 3,000 riyals

ADEN, June 12 (YPA) – Activists from the south reported a plan to raise exchange rates in the southern regions under the Saudi-led coalition’s control to high levels.

This news comes in light of the continued decline in the value of the Yemeni riyal against foreign currencies as a result of the systematic policies of impoverishment and starvation in those areas.

Activists pointed to expectations that the dollar exchange rate will reach 3,000 Yemeni riyals and the Saudi riyal 800 riyals by the end of this year. They emphasized that the decline in the Yemeni riyal’s exchange rate is not random but rather part of a deliberate policy by the factions affiliated with the coalition.

They also noted that the forces affiliated with the coalition have become entirely dependent on the Saudi dollar deposit as their primary source of income after the halt in oil exports. This is in addition to the financial sums provided by Saudi Arabia and disbursed in Yemeni riyals after being converted from Saudi riyals deposited in the central bank’s account at the National Saudi Bank.
