PARIS, June 09 (YPA) – The Élysée Palace announced on Monday that French President Emmanuel Macron has called for the immediate release of six French citizens detained by “Israel” while participating in a maritime campaign headed to the Gaza Strip aboard the vessel “Madeleine.”
In a statement released by the Élysée and circulated by media outlets, it was noted, “The President of the Republic has demanded the swift return to France of six of our citizens whose vessel was intercepted by Israeli authorities off the coast of Gaza.”
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot also stated that Paris has requested consular protection for its citizens and authorization to visit them to facilitate their return home. Among those detained is European Parliament member Rima Hassan.
Early Monday, the Israeli occupation navy intercepted the “Madeleine” sailing vessel in the Mediterranean Sea. The boat was carrying climate activist Greta Thunberg and other pro-Palestinian activists who were en route to Gaza.
