26 Yemeni fishermen return home after weeks of detention in Somalia

HADRAMOUT, June 08 (YPA) – A group of 26 Yemeni fishermen returned today after being held in Somalia since May 14, according to local sources in Hadramout province.

The fishermen arrived at Port of Shihr aboard their boat, Maymoon 1.

They were welcomed by both local officials and the public, with widespread joy at their return following weeks of detention and hardship, the sources confirmed.

The fishermen had been abducted by an armed Somali group while working near Ras Binnah in international waters.  Despite possessing official fishing permits issued by a recognized Somali authority, their captors demanded a ransom for their release.
