ADEN, June 02 (YPA) – Rashad Al-Alimi, head of Yemen’s Saudi-backed “Presidential Leadership Council” loyal to the Saudi-led coalition returned to Aden on Sunday aboard a Saudi military aircraft, amid a catastrophic collapse in the living standards and public services, including power outages lasting up to 20 hours a day.”
Al-Alimi arrived in Aden alongside Salem bin Braik, a pro- coalition prime minister, but without any leaders from the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC). Meanwhile, Aden’s residents are crying out in desperation over hunger, darkness, and skyrocketing prices that have shattered their lives—worsening their suffering just before Eid al-Adha.
Southern activists flooded social media with angry calls for mass protests and a blockade of the Ma’ashiq Palace, where Al-Alimi and the pro-coalition government are based.
They declared that Al-Alimi is ‘not welcome in Aden’ and demanded that he leave the city until electricity is restored and public salaries are paid. Some even called for cutting power to the Ma’ashiq Palace for an hour so that Al-Alimi and his government ‘can feel the people’s suffering’.
Activists accused Al-Alimi of “executing a malicious conspiracy” to starve Aden and other southern provinces in service of foreign agendas, depriving citizens of their most basic rights to electricity, water, and food.
They also expressed solidarity with female activists facing “horrifying threats and persecution” by UAE-backed STC forces, holding the coalition fully responsible for the safety of women participating in Aden’s protests.
