Haaretz: 35 Israeli soldiers committed suicide since start of Gaza war

OCCUPIED PALESTINE, May 18 (YPA) – At least 35 Israeli soldiers have taken their own lives since the beginning of the war on Gaza through the end of 2024, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported, citing a military official.

The paper stated that the Israeli “army” has buried many soldiers who committed suicide since the start of the war without military funerals or announcements.

Regarding Israeli soldiers, Haaretz quoted a military official as saying that thousands of reservists deployed in Gaza sought medical attention due to psychological disorders.

The report stated that the number of soldiers receiving treatment for psychological disorders since the start of the war exceeds 9,000, while the Israeli army continues to recruit individuals with mental health issues into the reserve forces due to a shortage of troops.

Haaretz revealed that the Israeli military is also conscripting individuals suffering from trauma and mental illnesses into the reserve forces, even while they are still receiving treatment.

According to a military commander cited by Haaretz, the army is being forced to recruit individuals with unstable mental health due to widespread refusal among soldiers to continue fighting.
