COPENHAGEN, May 15 (YPA) – Denmark’s Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, considered Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement to resume fighting “with full force” in the Gaza Strip a flagrant violation of international norms and a dangerous development in the ongoing war on the Strip.
In statements reported by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, Rasmussen expressed his country’s dismay at what he described as “Netanyahu’s provocative plans”.
He stressed that Netanyahu’s remarks contradict all established international rules and constitute a direct challenge to the will of the international community.
Rasmussen, who had previously expressed his country’s hope for a truce in the Gaza Strip following the release of American captive Idan Alexander, said that these statements reflected Israel’s intention to escalate and evade its humanitarian obligations.
In this context, the Danish government are facing mounting criticism from human rights and public organizations over its continued export licenses for technical equipment that could be used in Israeli occupation’s F-35 fighter jets. In addition, the maritime giant Maersk has continued to transport arms shipments to the occupation, raising growing legal concerns that Copenhagen could be prosecuted for complicity in war crimes.
On Tuesday, Netanyahu declared that his government would not halt the war on Gaza, saying, “We may temporarily cease fire to recover the prisoners, but the fighting will resume with full force until complete victory be achieved.”
