MAHRA, April 23 (YPA) – Hand-to-hand confrontations broke out between recruits from the Saudi-backed “Dera Al-Watan” factions and police officers from the city of Qishn in Mahra province, eastern Yemen.
Informed sources reported that the reason for these clashes was the police’s seizure of a truck loaded with 300 cartons of motorcycles and spare parts on Tuesday. The truck was heading to Socotra via the Qishn port, west of Al-Ghaydah city.
The sources explained that one of the “Dera Al-Watan” recruits intended to send the shipment to a merchant in Socotra, and the police tried to confiscate it, but the “Dera Al-Watan” recruits strongly objected, which led to the matter escalating into verbal altercations and fistfights.
These arguments almost turned into armed confrontations near the port, the sources added.
