Shabwa Council threatens self-rule similar to Hadramout

SHABWA, April 16 (YPA) – The Secretary-General of the Saudi-affiliated Shabwa National Council, Nasser bin Habtoor, announced that Shabwa and Al-Mahra are moving toward self-rule, similar to the Hadramout declaration that took place last Saturday.

In press statements, Habtoor said that “Demands presented by Hadramout regarding self-rule and partnership in national decision-making are legitimate,” stressing that the eastern governorates of Yemen will no longer accept being merely a cash cow that forces compete to annex and exploit.

He explained that these regions want a partnership in power and wealth, away from the hegemony and guardianship of the forces affiliated with the coalition, as they represent two-thirds of Yemen’s area and three-quarters of its wealth.

The Secretary of the Shabwa Council indicated that “Hadramout initiated self-rule, Shabwa and Al-Mahra will follow suit, and the forces must work to achieve this before it is too late.”
