SANAA, April 14 (YPA) – Archaeology expert Abdullah Mohsen revealed on Monday that a statue from ancient Yemen will be offered for sale at an Israeli auction next Wednesday.
Mohsen, who is interested in tracking down antiquities smuggled from Yemen, said in a post on his Facebook that a small bronze statue from Yemen, depicting a sphinx, is set to be auctioned in in Jaffa, (known as Tel Aviv) as part of the private collection of Shlomo Moussaieff.
six other Yemeni artifacts are expected to be put up for sale by the end of April.
Shlomo Moussaieff’s (1925-2015), “a renowned an Israeli jeweler, and Jewish antiquities collector from Bukhara who was born in Al Quds and moved to Britain in 1963.
Moussaieff spoke Arabic and collected more than 60,000 antiquities in his lifetime, including hundreds of masterpieces from Yemen.
