ADEN, Feb. 14 (YPA) -The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s forces , in cooperation with the so-called ” Al-‘Asifah Forces,” imposed a strict siege on the Al-Buraiqeh district of Aden province, amid an unprecedented security alert, activists and local sources reported on Thursday night
According to the sources, the UAE-backed forces launched a widespread arrest campaign targeting dozens of residents of the district, following popular protests against rising prices and deteriorating living conditions.
Among those arrested was activist Salem Awad Abdoobak Al-Burai, a prominent voice in defending the rights of the people of Al-Buraiqeh, amid concerns for his life, especially as he suffers from chronic disease.
Activists indicated that the forces completely surrounded the streets of the district and began pursuing anyone who expressed opposition to the dire economic situation, in an attempt to suppress the protests by force.
The sources confirmed that the people of Al-Buraiqeh refuse to submit to this repression and that these measures will not deter them from demanding their rights,
They emphasized that arbitrary arrests and security crackdowns will not discourage them from confronting corruption and the deteriorating living conditions.
