Mexican President: 10,000 troops will be deployed to reinforce the Mexico-US border

WORLD, Feb. 04 (YPA) – Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced her intention to deploy the National Guard to the border with the United States, stating that this decision aligns with the country’s interests and will contribute to securing the border and combating arms smuggling.

During her daily press conference, Sheinbaum said, “Mexican Defense Minister is preparing a plan to deploy National Guard units to the border with the United States so that we can begin implementing it immediately.”

Sheinbaum noted that sending troops to the border areas “also aligns with Mexico’s interests and will help address the smuggling of weapons from the United States.”

Earlier on Monday, Sheinbaum announced that she had held a phone call with US President Donald Trump, after which the application of tariffs imposed by Washington at a rate of 25% on imports of Mexican goods on February 1 was suspended for one month.

She added that Mexico will deploy 10,000 National Guard personnel to prevent the illegal smuggling of drugs into the United States.
