“Congolese” deal grants “Al-Alimi” control over Yemen’s most vital oil field
ADEN, Feb. 04 (YPA) – Reports have revealed the sale of the “S5” oil block in Shabwa province, one of the most important oil blocks in eastern Yemen, to an unknown company called “Congolese,” which sparked widespread controversy and many questions.
The company was accused of being fictitious and unspecialized and that the aim of the deal was to achieve personal gains for some influential people, including the son of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, Rashad Al-Alimi, and his partners.
The S5 oil block is considered one of the most important productive oil blocks in Yemen, as it includes 5 producing oil fields that were previously operated by the “PetroMasila” company, in addition to large reserves of natural gas.
This deal has sparked sharp disagreements among senior officials of the pro-coalition government, amid growing fears of the exploitation of influence to achieve private interests at the expense of citizens who are living in difficult humanitarian conditions and tragic circumstances.
