WORLD, Jan. 29 (YPA) -A pilot from the US Air Force survived after the crash of a single-seat F-35 fighter jet at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska yesterday, Tuesday.
Colonel Paul Townsend, commander of the 354th Fighter Wing, stated in remarks to journalists that the pilot encountered a “malfunction during flight” but managed to eject safely from the aircraft.
He added that the crash occurred at Eielson Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Townsend explained that the pilot declared an emergency before the incident occurred and is now in stable condition, undergoing examinations at a medical facility.
He mentioned that the pilot was participating in a routine training exercise in local airspace when the accident happened, emphasizing that the Air Force will conduct a “comprehensive investigation to reduce the chances of such incidents recurring in the future.”
The F-35 aircraft are long-range, supersonic fighters equipped with advanced stealth capabilities. With the ability to fly for over 12 hours continuously, they can reach any point in the Northern Hemisphere in a single mission.
