Qassem: Preventing displaced people return violates agreement, Trump’s Gaza remarks are dangerous

GAZA, Jan. 26 (YPA) – Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem confirmed on Sunday that the Israeli occupation’s refusal to allow the return of displaced people to northern Gaza is a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement, which was signed on the 19th of this month.

In a press statement, Qassem said that the Israeli occupation army is stalling in reopening the checkpoints for displaced people to return to their homes, despite the movement sending confirmation that the detained “Arbel Yehud” is alive.

He called on mediators to pressure the Israeli occupation and force it to allow the displaced to return.

“There are direct communications with the mediators to find a solution and open the Netzarim axis.”

In a separate matter, Qassem described US President Donald Trump’s statements about pressuring Egypt and Jordan to take in more people from Gaza as dangerous and aligned with the views of Israel’s far-right.

Yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu violated one of the conditions of the ceasefire agreement, which concerned the return of displaced people from central and southern Gaza to the north.

Netanyahu’s office said, “We will not allow Gaza residents to return to the northern areas until the release of detained Arbel Yehud is arranged.”
