DAMASCUS, Jan. 12 (YPA) – Since the fall of the Assad regime on Dec. 8 and the takeover of Syria by armed groups, the Islamic State (ISIS) has made a sudden and swift return to announce its presence in eastern Syria,
The Syrian desert has experienced hectic movements by ISIS in the area between Al-Ammour and Al-Bishri mountains, where they are traveling comfortably between the two areas in light of the lack of security measures in that region, the Syrian Observatory For Human Rights (SOHR) reported, citing sources.
According to SOHR sources, ISIS exploiting the successive developments which followed the fall of Al-Assad regime, including withdrawals of military forces from the Syrian desert, where it confiscated large amounts of weapons and ammunitions from military positions of former regime forces and Iranian-backed militias.
SOHR activists have also confirmed that ISIS members have recently accomplished heavy military drills in training fields in Al-Hammad area and near Al-Sukhnah city as a part of preparations for launching large-scale military operations believed to be carried out in the eastern countryside of Hama with the aim of taking control of strategic villages.
Multiple Arab and foreign nations have expressed concern over the growing threat posed by the resurgence of the Daesh terrorist group in Syria. They particularly fear that members of the organization have managed to escape from detention centers at the al-Hol camp in rural Deir Ezzor.
