DAMASCUS, Dec. 20 (YPA) – In Damascus’s Ummayad Square, hundreds gathered Thursday, demanding a democratic state that includes women in public life, marking the first such demonstration since Islamist-led rebels toppled longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad.
The gathering included several representatives from the secular movement who called for strengthening the role of women in the upcoming phase of the country.
They emphasized the importance of this role in Syrian society and rejected any attempts to marginalize women.
They affirmed that Syrian women are equal in the struggle with men for a more stable and democratic Syria that preserves rights and freedoms.
