SANAA, Dec. 16 (YPA) – Nearly 400,000 activists have signed two petitions calling on the UK to recognise Palestine as a state and end all arms export licences to the Israeli military, calling for protests and focus on these demands.
Activists stressed that it is time to end the “empty words” of politicians who claim support for Palestine without taking concrete steps, considering that the continued supply of weapons reinforces the illegal occupation and funds the war machine against Palestinians in Gaza.
On the other hand, Jerry Coates, executive member of the Scottish Friends of Palestine, called on the British government to recognize Palestine’s right to exist through “actions,” considering that continued British support for the occupation reinforces its crimes.
In this context, Amnesty International criticized the Scottish government for its support for arms companies such as BAE Systems and Raython, which supply military equipment to the Israeli army.
Activists pointed out that the two-state solution, which has been promoted for decades, has led to the strengthening of the Israeli occupation rather than ending it.
