STC doubles famine in Aden by imposing new taxes

ADEN, Dec. 11 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) has imposed new taxes that contribute to worsening the living conditions of citizens in the coalition-controlled city of Aden, in southern Yemen.

“Director General of the Sira region, loyal to the STC, Mahmoud Jarady, imposed a 1% tax on the value of each fisherman’s production for the benefit of the Cleanliness Fund,” the Sira Gulf Fishermen’s Association said in a statement on Monday. “The taxes are in conflict with all regulations and laws.”

The statement explained that the fishermen were being charged with force of arms, in clear violation of the law regulating fishing, exploitation and protection of aquatic life.

It indicated that the Association’s leadership tried to convince Jarady to abandon these illegal measures, but he refused to discuss and ordered the collection of taxes by force of arms.
