SANAA, Nov. 25 (YPA) – The US city of Belfast has agreed to divest from companies with ties to the Israeli occupation, in protest of its continued killing of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
The city council voted 5-0 at its meeting to approve the divestment proposal.
According to city officials who did not publicly identify the companies, the measure also prohibits future investments in such companies as long as the occupation and attacks on Gaza continue.
Other cities that have made similar decisions include Portland, where the city council passed a resolution in September to protest divestment from the occupation.
Other US cities that have decided to divest from the occupation include Hayward and Richmond, both in California, and Dearborn and Hamtramck, both in Michigan.
