‘Smell of death is everywhere as bodies are left lying under rubble’: UNRWA

GAZA, Oct. 23 (YPA) – Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, said that “the smell of death is everywhere as bodies are left lying on the roads or under the rubble due to the Israeli bombings.”

Lazzarini stressed in a statement on Tuesday that the Israeli occupation has refused to allow ambulance crews to carry out missions to retrieve bodies or provide humanitarian assistance.

“In northern Gaza, people are waiting for death, because it has become an inevitable fate. They feel abandoned, and they fear death every second,” he revealed.

Lazzarini pointed out that UNRWA’s employees could not find food, water or medical care, explained they remained in the north and did what was impossible to provide assistance to the displaced.

The occupation forces are preventing the entry of water, food and medicine supplies, and have committed massacres against civilians, resulting in dozens of martyrs and hundreds of wounded during the past week.

The American-supported Israeli occupation army has been waging a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, resulting in more than 140,000 Palestinian dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and over 10,000 are missing.
