Hackers attack Cyprus infrastructure in support of Palestine

NICOSIA, Oct. 23 (YPA) – A series of coordinated hacking attacks have targeted critical infrastructure and government websites in Cyprus.

Cyprus-based Cyber officials said on Tuesday that the attacks by several hacking groups had targeted the main Cyprus government portal, the country’s electricity and telecommunications authorities, its main bank, an oil company and the operator of two local airports.

The said most of these sites were hit by distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, which flood targeted sites with unwanted traffic, making them temporarily inaccessible, while the hackers affirmed that they stole sensitive data.

The Record website quoted hackers from “Lulzsic Black” in a statement, saying: “This operation was carried out in response to Cyprus’ support for the occupying, usurping entity,” adding that they would stop the attacks if Cyprus changed its position towards “Israel” and sends food supply planes to the Gaza Strip.

Last week, the first warnings about a possible cyber operation against Cyprus emerged following statements on Telegram and dark web forums from groups such as LulzSec Black, Moroccan Soldiers, Black Masked Army and Anonymous Syria that announced the intention of hack Cypriot agencies to punish the country for its support for Israeli the occupation.
