SANAA, Oct. 14 (YPA) – Politicians from several Sri Lankan parties have called for severing diplomatic ties with Tel Aviv, after Israeli attacks resulted in injury of two UN peacekeepers from the South Asian nation.
The Sri Lankan troops are part of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, which is tasked with helping the Lebanese army maintain control of the country’s south, which borders the occupied Palestinian territories in 1948.
Marjan Valil, of the Sri Lanka People’s Front, the country’s largest party, called for severing diplomatic ties and banning Israeli products.
“Enough of the Israeli atrocities, now they are laying their hands on the peacekeeping mission,” he said.
“Sri Lanka should take this matter to the International Court of Justice and also cut off all diplomatic relations with Israel,” he added.
