Yemeni fishermen injured by Eritrean naval boats

HODEIDA, Oct. 11 (YPA) – About three Yemeni fishermen were injured on Friday by Eritrean naval boats, while they were fishing 94 nautical miles away in Yemeni territorial waters.

In a statement, the Sanaa-based Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources strongly condemned the attack that the Eritrean naval boats carried out on the fishermen and in the Red Sea.

The ministry statement considered this treacherous attack a blatant violation of Yemeni sovereignty and a repeated threat to the lives of fishermen who depend on fishing as their main source of livelihood.

The statement said this attack has come in the context of a series of repeated attacks by the Eritrean Navy on Yemeni fishermen in recent years, which resulted in casualties and severe material damage, noting the fishermen’s right to practice their profession freely and safely in Yemeni territorial waters.

The statement called for the international community and regional and international organizations to intervene urgently to stop these criminal attacks and take a firm stance to protect Yemeni fishermen and ensure their safety.

It called on the Eritrean government to assume responsibility for this attack, conduct a transparent investigation and hold those involved accountable.
