UAE-funded factions kidnap prominent local official in Shabwa

SHABWA, Oct. 07 (YPA) – A prominent local official was kidnapped and forcibly disappeared in the prisons of UAE-funded factions for the eighth day in a row inside Ataq Airport in Shabwa province, eastern Yemen.

Local sources confirmed that the UAE-funded “Shabwa Defense” factions kidnapped the former Director General of the Water and Sanitation Corporation in the province, engineer Salem Souban Al-Khulaifi, last week and placed him in the notorious Ataq Airport prison without referring him to the security or judicial authorities.

The sources attributed the kidnapping of Al-Khulaifi to a dispute over a plot of land in Ataq with leaders of the “Second Brigade” of Shabwa Defense, which is led by Wajdi Al-Khulaifi, who is putting pressure on Souban to achieve purely personal interests.

The kidnapping incident comes as a continuation of the security chaos that Shabwa is witnessing, especially since Souban Al-Khulaifi was working within the authorities of the former governor of Shabwa, Muhammad Saleh bin Adio.
