30 Yemeni citizens survive drowning in Arabian Sea

SOCOTRA, Oct. 06 (YPA) – 30 citizens from the Socotra Archipelago, located east of the Gulf of Aden, who were on board Fiberglass ship, survived, on Sunday, from drowning in the Arabian Sea.

Pro-coalition media reported that the ship’s crew sent distress calls to the Coast Guard in Qalansiyah district in the Socotra Archipelago, urging them to rescue the passengers for fear of drowning due to a water leak in the ship.

The media explained that the ship was coming from the port of Al-Shihr in Hadramout province to Socotra, and is 100 km away from Qalansiyah, about 9 nautical miles.

The same sources pointed out that the boats moved to the ship’s location to transport the island’s citizens to the coast of Qalansiya, while the ship continued sailing towards the island’s port in Hawlaf.

The people of Socotra demand a reduction in the cost of travel via Yemenia Airlines on its flights to Socotra, which exceed $300, amid humiliating conditions of exploitation in weights and prices at Aden and Hadramout airports.
