Leader in GPC returns to forefront of events

ADEN, Oct. 05 (YPA) – A leader in the General People’s Congress (GPC) has revealed a catastrophe being perpetrated by factions affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in the city of Aden, which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalition in southern Yemen.

Abdul Karim Shayef, the former Secretary-General of the Local Council in Aden, called on the authorities in Aden, Lahij, and Abyan to stop the levies imposed on fruits and vegetables.

He urged the authorities in those governorates to make a brave and clear decision to temporarily ban the collection of taxes and levies on agricultural products, given the living conditions of citizens and encouraging farmers.

Addressing the STC’s tax collection points, stating, “Your families are suffering from rising vegetable prices due to the levies at several points, which are unreasonable and illogical.”

He noted that some families cannot afford to buy tomatoes for a single day and urged them not to harm the citizens.

It is worth mentioning that the local council in Aden ousted Abdul Karim Shayef, who served as the Secretary-General of the Local Council in Aden, in December 2015 following the withdrawal of forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh from Aden.
