Japan evacuates over 130,000 people due to sever flooding

WORLD, Sept. 22 (YPA) –  Over 131,000 people have been evacuated from seven cities and towns in Ishikawa Prefecture, west of Honshu Island, due to flooding and severe weather conditions, NHK television channel reported

According to NHK, continuous rainfall in the area has resulted in the death of one person and the disappearance of six others.

The channel confirmed that rivers have overflowed and there have been landslides in the region, causing power outages for at least 6,000 households.

The most significant damage from the disaster occurred in Noto Village and the cities of Wajima and Suzu.

Wajima city in Ishikawa received a record 318.5mm of rainfall from Friday evening through Saturday noon, including 121mm on Saturday morning alone.
